Your companion explains what needs explaining, but never rushes to hand you the conclusion. It poses a question and you try an answer; it follows your answer with the next question, the clues surface one by one, and you close in on the idea until, at some point, it clicks. You worked it out yourself.

That pleasure of unravelling a problem, like a detective closing a case, is something reading an answer can never give you. And because you reasoned your way there, you remember it better.

The one reasoning alongside you is a companion with a personality and a story: it cheers when you land a good idea, and tries a new angle when you're stuck.

Learning science has long shown that retrieving knowledge, by answering questions, explaining to others or facing a teacher's follow-ups, works far better than rereading or listening. But the traditional ways to practise retrieval have three old problems, and Socratopia answers each:

It can't be guaranteed never to, but we work to keep the risk low. Companions teach from the book, search the whole book when a question reaches beyond the current pages, and can quote the original text for you to check. Their teaching rules require them to admit uncertainty rather than invent facts. Library books go through several rounds of review, and exercise answers are checked separately. For medicine, law, investing and other high-stakes topics, confirm important conclusions with authoritative sources or a professional.

A good setup: import and manage books on your computer, and keep going with Library books on Cloud when you're away.

Open app.socratopia.app in the browser and sign in with your email. To open it like an app: on iPhone or iPad, tap Share in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen; on Android, open the Chrome or system browser menu and choose Add to Home screen or Install app. The first time you open it from the icon on an iPhone, you may need one more email code; your account and learning are unaffected.

Three things, mainly:

Lessons on Library books, companions, worlds, companion voice, flashcards and pets all work on Cloud.

The desktop app works on up to 3 computers per account; Cloud doesn't count toward that and opens in any browser. So that two devices never edit the same progress at once, one device studies at a time: when a new device takes over, the previous one pauses, and nothing is lost. Computers that keep their data only on that computer aren't affected.

Yes. Turn on cloud sync in the desktop app (Settings → Devices), and profiles, worlds, companion memory, lesson records and progress carry over to Cloud. The one exception is the files you imported yourself: they are never uploaded, so those books continue on your computer.

Every public book in the Library can be read on the web for free, no account needed. To study it with a companion, press Learn this book with an AI companion on the book's page, and it opens straight into a lesson in Cloud; every chapter page has the same way in. The books cost nothing; conversations with your companion use credits under your account's plan.

Material with clear concepts you can reason through step by step: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, programming, economics and exam courses, and people also use it for languages and the classics. The book matters more than the subject: well-explained books with plenty of examples work best, while outlines, or material whose key information sits only in pictures, work less well. Companions can't read or draw images on their own yet.

Yes, in the desktop app. It imports PDF, EPUB, Markdown and Word (DOCX); Markdown works best because its chapter structure is clearest. A scanned PDF needs to go through an OCR tool first (to Markdown, for example). Your original files stay on your computer and are never uploaded. The Android app can also import a PDF from your phone, kept only on that phone; Cloud in a browser can't import books for now.

A section of the Library for short pieces suited to interactive learning. Read them free, or study them with a companion. Submissions of your own or licensed writing are welcome through Library → Anthology → Submit in the desktop app; every piece is reviewed before it's published.

Yes: the six-volume Socratopia English Immersion in the Library. The books themselves are in English, so they're best studied in an English-teaching world. Pick your starting point by vocabulary:

Socratopia is free to use. Every account gets 1 million credits (tokens) each month, added automatically, plus 3 million when you sign up. At a typical pace, 1 million credits covers about an hour of text lessons. Reading Library books costs nothing; credits are used only when the AI generates a reply.

$29.99 a month, $69.99 a quarter or $199 a year (¥149, ¥299 or ¥980). You get 15 million Plan Credits right away, then they refill continuously, about 100 million over 30 days, holding up to 100 million, so running low never means waiting for next month. One subscription covers both Desktop and Cloud. That works out to less than one percent of a private tutor's hourly rate.

Only when the AI reads, thinks or writes on the spot: your companion replying, a new lesson's opening, tidying up records and flashcards after class. Opening the app, reading a book, looking back through conversations and syncing cost nothing. How much each reply uses depends on how much of the book and conversation the AI has to read.

Companion voice uses separate Voice Credits and never touches your text credits. Voices marked Free or Limited-time free use none; a subscription may include Voice Credits, which never expire. Dictating your own messages with your keyboard's voice input costs nothing.

Subscribe or cancel with one tap from the Account page in Cloud or the desktop app. Cards such as Visa and Mastercard, Alipay and WeChat Pay are accepted, all processed securely by Stripe. After cancelling you keep your plan until the period ends; when it ends, your remaining Plan Credits are held for 30 days, and renewing within that time brings them back. Subscriptions are paid in advance and aren't refundable once charged; for a duplicate charge or another payment fault, write to support@socratopia.app and we'll review it.

Yes. Share your referral code from the Referral Code page under Account: each new user you bring in earns you extra credits, in the amount shown on that page. Join the promoter program, and qualifying paid referrals can also earn a cash commission.

No. Socratopia never collects passwords: every sign-in uses a code sent to your email, so a password you reuse elsewhere is never at stake.

Cloud, and the desktop app with cloud sync on, keep your learning with your account on our servers so it follows you between devices; the desktop app can instead keep it only on your computer. Files you import are never uploaded.

To generate replies, lesson content passes through our servers to AI model providers whose applicable terms govern processing, retention, and service improvement; we cannot guarantee that every provider excludes requests from model improvement or training. We don't use your conversations to train models or for academic research, and our staff don't read your conversations unless you share them with us or explicitly allow it. We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't serve targeted advertising based on learning content. See the Privacy Policy for details.
