What is Socratopia?

Socratopia is an AI-powered learning app that uses the Socratic method — teaching through questions rather than lectures — to help you deeply understand any textbook. You bring your own material or download from the Socratopia Library, choose a tutor, and learn through dialogue.

How is Socratopia different from just chatting with an AI?

A regular AI gives you answers. Socratopia's tutors guide you to find the answers yourself through questions, building genuine understanding rather than just memorization.

What operating systems are supported?

macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11.

What is a Token?

Tokens are the unit of measure for AI usage in Socratopia. Each conversation consumes a certain number of tokens. All accounts receive a free token allowance that refreshes periodically. Subscribe to the Token Plan to get a larger monthly allocation. Reward tokens earned through referrals and activities are independent of your subscription and do not expire when a subscription ends.

Which AI model does Socratopia use?

We use leading AI models to power the service. The specific model may vary based on the task and our ongoing evaluations, always with the goal of delivering the best learning experience.

Are the library books free to read?

Yes — every book in the Socratopia Library (socratopia.app/library) is freely readable in your browser, no account needed. To load a book into the app for AI tutoring, most titles require one Library Credit. Credits can be earned through in-app tasks, gifted monthly with a Token Plan subscription, or purchased inside the app.

Can I upload my own materials?

Yes. Socratopia accepts PDF, ePub, and Markdown files, so your AI tutor can teach around exactly the content you choose. Please ensure you have the legal right to use any materials you upload.

Is Socratopia free?

Yes — the software is free to download and use. Every account starts with a free token allowance, enough to experience the core features. Subscribe to the Token Plan for a larger monthly allocation.

How do I subscribe?

Subscriptions are managed inside the app. After downloading, open Settings to view current plans and pricing and subscribe directly.

What payment methods are accepted?

Major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) via Stripe. Alipay and WeChat Pay are also supported.

How do I cancel? What happens after I cancel?

You can cancel directly in the app — open Account and cancel with one tap, no need to contact support. Your subscription stays active through the end of the current billing period. When it expires, any unused subscription token allocation will clear; reward tokens earned through referrals and activities are not affected.

Where is my data stored?

Conversation history and learning progress are stored locally on your device — we cannot access them. Account and subscription data are stored on our servers.

Does Socratopia share my conversations with third parties?

To generate responses, your conversation content is transmitted through our servers to the third-party AI provider we use to deliver the service. Socratopia does not store your conversation content.

How do I delete my account and data?

Email support@socratopia.app to request deletion. We will complete the process within 7 business days and confirm when done.
